2/24/10 Tests graded, makeup online

The tests have been graded and posted to Edline. There is a makeup test available for this test. Students that get an 80 or above can have this score averaged with their original test score to improve their grade. This must be completed by class time on Tuesday 3/2.

To sign up you need to log onto the castlelearning.com website. You should look for the assignment "Makeup Immunity & Mitosis". Students will have to log in with "averillpark.studentid" where studentid is their id number in 9 digit format, with leading zeros, if needed.

We began the Meiosis unit. Notes for the unit, Meiosis, Sexual Reproduction, are available in several formats:

• 2 slides per page in color, large format for viewing
• 6 slides per page in black & white, for economical printing
• 3 slides per page in black & white with room for notes on one side.
• The entire PowerPoint presentation with media included and a viewer in compressed (approx 21MB) format.
• Link to a textbook for the current unit (approx 8.5 MB)that follows the course presented in class.
• Worksheets for the meiosis unit. This worksheet must be completed for Friday, Feb 26.

Homework:

• Review the notes.
• Continue to enter data for the long term data collection project.

Today we did a microscope examination of cells in mitosis lab. The lab report is due on Tuesday, 2/23.

We did a lab activity where we created a mitosis flip book. This will be graded on Friday and should be brought to class throughout the unit.

On Thursday we will do a web based lab activity on mitosis in class. Students should complete the activity and email it for credit, following the instructions at the bottom of the worksheet.

I collected the lab reports from the Simulating the Spread of Infectious disease lab. Students that did not turn in the lab and do not get me the lab by Friday are required to stay after school to complete.

2/1/10 Third Quarter - Midterm returned and Immunity

I returned the midterm tests today. There will be a makeup test for this grad in June. It will be a Regents style final. Students that improve their scores with a passing grade will be able to replace their midterm score.
