1/12/09 Excretion notes and Nervous & Endocrine test

Yellow - Midterm coming on January 27 @ 8AM
Today in class we:
· Took student questions about the Nervous and Endocrine unit. We discussed function of the different parts of the brain.
· Continued the discussion of the Excretory system and water balance. We began discussing nephron function. We then discussed how the urine collects in the ureters and passes to the bladder. Then the urine is passed out of the body via the urethra. We discussed the processing steps of filtration, reabsorbtion and secretion. We discussed how the kidneys aid in balancing the fluid composition of the body and how blood pressure and pH are regulated. We reviewed osmosis and finished on slide #42.
· Handed out the review packet for the next unit, The Immune System.
Coming up:
· Unit test on nervous & endocrine system the week of 1/12/09. Currently scheduled for Tuesday.
· We will review the test.
· Finish with the Excretory system and water balance.
Homework:
· Review the notes.
· Study for the test.
· Continue work on Excretion & water balance worksheet packet, due Friday, 1/16.

Today in class we:

· Finished the discussion of the Excretory system and water balance. We began discussing kidney stones. We finished with Cirrhosis.
· Began the discussion of the Immune system. We discussed homeostasis and how inheritance, pathogens and pollutants may contribute to disease.
· Handed out the review packet for the next unit, The Immune System.
Coming up:
· Unit test on nervous & endocrine system on Tuesday 1/13/09.
· We will review the test.
Homework:
· Review the notes.
· Finish writeup of the lab on Innate vs learned Behavior., due Friday.
· Study for upcoming test.
· Continue work on Excretion & water balance worksheet packet, due Friday, 1/16.
